“If you go to Atlanta, the first question people ask you is, “What’s your business?” In Macon they ask, “Where do you go to church?” In Augusta they ask your grandmother’s maiden name. But in Savannah the first question people ask you is “What would you like to drink?”
John Berendt, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
It’s no secret that Savannahians love both a good drink and a good time. So of course it’s only natural that Savannahians put those loves together for charity. Last Thursday, Cora Bett Thomas Realty and Associates hosted its first “Cheers for Charity” event. This event was held at In Vino Veritas, which is a favorite wine bar of locals. Participants paid $10 to enter their favorite charity into a drawing, so that charity would win all of the proceeds from the night. As a side perk, the $10 entry fee also allowed participants to enjoy all of the free rose’ they could drink, for as long as the keg lasted.
The winning charity, which was drawn at the end of the evening, was Emmaus House. This is a non-profit that provides meals and day services to the homeless, and over $700 was raised at this event for Emmaus House.
In addition to the generosity of In Vino Veritas for hosting the event, local vendors also made generous donations for 3 additional door prizes. DJ OB1-Benobi donated his time to spin excellent tunes, which got everyone in a festive mood. A selfie booth, some cheeky props, and of course the rose’ all made for a truly enjoyable time! Thank you to everyone who participated, and we hope to see you all at the next Cora Bett Thomas Realty and Associates event!
