The Beaufort Inn Delivers with Classic Style and Comfort
The Beaufort Inn is located in the heart of Historic Downtown Beaufort. The inn consists of the main Inn house, several guest cottages as well as the newly completed Greyhound Flats located just around the corner from the main inn. The Beaufort Inn has been a fixture of Beaufort for more than 100 years. The Inn was originally built in 1897 as a summer home for Congressman William Sydney Smith and his family, so that he and his family could enjoy Beaufort in comfort and style. The Inn has since been restored and renovated with modern amenities. Now guests at the Inn can also enjoy comfort and style, while being surrounded by historical charm.
The main Inn house is a classic example of Victorian architecture. Its wide front porches and curved rear porches are designed to catch soothing sea breezes. The porch ceilings of the main Inn house are all painted “haint blue.” According to Southern folklore, this color is said to repel evil spirits, or “haints,” as they are known in the South. Accommodations range from rooms with a single king-size bed to two bedroom suites.
All of the rooms located in the main Inn are decorated in classic coastal style. But no amenities have been sacrificed. The Beaufort Inn has all of the class and comfort of a boutique hotel, with all of the charm of a B&B. Private cottages are available, as well as The Greyhound Flats which provide comfortable accommodations for multiple guests with a more modern design aesthetic.
The Beaufort Inn offers a vast array of amenities. These amenities include free off-street parking, 24/7 concierge service, bathrobes, and afternoon snacks and refreshments in the Lounge. Guest of the Inn can also take advantage of the on-site spa services. Several of the rooms and cottages at the Inn are pet-friendly. The Inn also provides vouchers for discounts on meals at restaurants in Historic Downtown Beaufort. On our visit, we used our vouchers for Blackstone’s Café and Saltus River Grill. We thought the partnership allowing guests to venture out for breakfast at local restaurants is great idea. All the restaurants are within easy walking distance of the Inn. More importantly, we thoroughly enjoyed the food and service at both places.
For a stay that is comfortable, relaxing and memorable, and truly embodies the breezy Southern charm that is Historic Downtown Beaufort, The Beaufort Inn can’t be beat.
