You can say it’s a small world, or maybe it’s just that Savannah has a way of attracting talented and creative people. Either way, 2 of those people have met up, and the result is sure to be incredible. Local architect, Jose Gonzalez, known for his work designing fabulous hotels around the country, especially in Miami, New York and Los Angeles, has been chosen by Vivienne Westwood to work on her latest project.
Vivienne Westwood is a fashion designer of world-renown whose career has spanned 25 years, and whose influence reaches into all niches of art and culture, from activism to the environment. Dame Westwood is the subject of a highly-touted premier exhibition presented by the Savannah College of Art and Design, which is open from May 19th to September 13th.
Jose Gonzalez, is also well-known and respected in his own right and his work can be seen all over the country. But for all of his travels he chooses to call the Low country home. Like Dame Westwood, his work cannot be simply described; he is involved in the rebranding, renovations, and adaptive reuse of properties, as well as historic preservation.
So of course, it’s not just fitting, but it’s also a matter of pride for Savannah that we not only honor Dame Westwood with her SCAD-hosted exhibit, but we can provide her with our own local talent.
